WELCOME TO THE
Brain Development in Early Epilepsy (BEE) Study

ABOUT BEE STUDY
The Brain development in Early Epilepsy (BEE) Study tracks children from their first diagnosis through to preschool age to understand how early brain development and epilepsy features affect later skills and behavior. By following children at 10, 14, 24 months for infant phase, and again at ages 3-5 for pre-school phase, we aim to identify early clues that help us provide the right support for every child.
The study is funded by an Epilepsy Research UK, Autistica fellowship (infant phase); Action Medical Research, Baily Thomas Charitable Fund and UKIST (preschool phase); and is co-sponsored by King's College London and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.
The BEE Study helps us better understand how the development of babies with early-onset epilepsy differs from that of typically developing babies, and how these early stages are linked to later behaviour. By conducting our research in the home, we can work with families in a comfortable and convenient setting. And through close collaboration with the community, we hope to improve long-term quality of life and ensure that every child has the best possible start.
