The inclusion and exclusion criteria listed below are general guidelines. We recognise that every baby is unique, and can offer some flexibility.

If you are unsure whether your child is eligible, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We would be very happy to discuss your circumstances and explore whether participation may be possible.

A Note on Eligibility...

Babies with epilepsy

We aim to recruit a total of 80 babies with suspected or confirmed focal seizures and/or infantile spasms under 1 year of age. Babies with a possible diagnosis will be included until the diagnosis is confirmed or not.

Unfortunately you won't be able to take part if your baby has one of the following:

• Significant uncorrected visual or hearing problems

• Seizures provoked by acute conditions, such as fever, infections, trauma, electrolyte disturbances, transient metabolic/endocrine disorders

To help us understand development we are also recruiting babies without epilepsy under 1 year old.

Unfortunately you won't be able to take part if your baby has one of the following:

• Significant uncorrected visual or hearing problems

• First-degree relatives diagnosed with epilepsy, ASD and/or ADHD

• Born preterm (before 37 weeks)
